Harter wins Saddle Bronc Riding championship at Cheyenne

Winning the championship at Cheyenne Frontier Days is a childhood dream for almost every rodeo contestant. For 10 of them, that dream became a first-time reality on Sunday at the 119th “Daddy of ‘em All.”

None of the winners was happier than saddle bronc rider Bradley Harter of Loranger, La. Harter has been riding at Cheyenne since 2001 and finished second three times by a single point — in 2006, 2011 and 2014.

“My dad competed here from 1973 until he retired. This is his favorite rodeo and he’s been here to cheer me on every time I’ve made the final round,” Harter said, adding that this is the first year his father Ted did not make the trip to Cheyenne.

“I’d love to wear the Cheyenne buckle,” he said, “but I’ve promised it to my dad. This is a dream come true. After finishing second three times, you begin to think it will never happen.”

Harter entered the final round in third place, but drew the horse he wanted – Stace Smith Rodeo’s Resistol’s Top Hat. After his 85-point ride which tied for fourth in the final round, he still had to watch Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) champion Cort Sheer and former world champion Jesse Wright ride. Plus three other cowboys had re-rides and were still to compete.

“That was the longest five minutes of my life,” he said, but when it was over Harter had won more than $10,000.

“This is the biggest and best rodeo in the world. I’ll remember this day forever,” he said.

Bareback rider Tanner Aus and bull rider Aaron Pass led for Frontier Days titles from the opening set of riders. Both competed on July 18 and 19 and had to wait a full week to see if they would still be leading on the final day.

Aus, who lives in Granite Falls, Minn., was tied with Wyoming’s Seth Hardwick, but made an 85-point ride on J Bar J Rodeo’s Dirty Rags to finish second in the final round and win the overall championship by two points. Aus admitted he was nervous all week and kept checking the standings. He was still nervous on Sunday.

“I usually jump around to pump up before I ride, but today the adrenaline was going. I had to take a deep breath and calm down,” he said. Aus won nearly $14,000 and that should help him qualify for his first NFR.

Pass, who lives in Dallas, Texas, scored 83 points on both his first and second-round bulls. He came into the finals leading the overall standings by two points. The trick in the bull riding was making a qualified ride. When Pass, the final cowboy of the rodeo, got on his bull, only two others had ridden their bulls for the required eight seconds.

His bull was a familiar foe – Dakota Rodeo’s Brown Sugar. Pass had won two other rodeos on Brown Sugar, including one he had to win to qualify for his first NFR. “Some days he’s fun to get on,” Pass said, “but today he bucked tougher and was harder to ride.”

He scored 79 points which gave him second in the final round and a 10-point lead to win the overall championship and $16,384.

Tie-down roping champion Marty Yates came into the finals in second place and was just thrilled to be roping on Sunday. Yates’ grandfather and father both competed here, but Marty was the first to win a championship. He earned $19,554.

Nick Guy of Sparta, Wis., won the steer wrestling championship with a total of 29.3. Guy had made the final round here four times and finished as high as third. He rides a 20-year-old horse that works well in the big arena at Cheyenne. The steers at this rodeo also fit the former hockey player’s style so well that he won more than $14,000.

Lisa Lockhart, the leader for the 2015 world championship, earned her first Cheyenne barrel racing championship with a total of 52.54. Lockhart, who has now won three of the biggest rodeos in North America this year including $18,093 in Cheyenne, was thrilled. And, less than 24 hours earlier, her daughter Alyssa won the barrel racing championship at the National Little Britches Rodeo Finals in Pueblo, Colo.

Team roping champions Luke Brown and Kollin VonAhn were in fourth place overall when the day began. They were competing after a sleepless night driving from the Days of ’47 Rodeo in Salt Lake City where they won the championship with a time of 3.4 seconds. The different arena size in Cheyenne meant Brown changed to a horse that would run faster. The outcome was just as good as they took fourth in the final round and won the championship by three-tenths of a second. They each won $10,302.

Shay Good of Midland, Texas, won the steer roping. Good was third overall and roped the championship with the fastest time of the final round, 16.7 seconds. His total winnings were $10,610.

“You don’t know how many times I ran that steer in the backyard as a kid,” he said. “I finally did it as a big kid – this is the rodeo all steer ropers want to win.”

JoJo LeMond of Andrews, Texas, was the only cowboy to qualify for the final round in more than one event. LeMond made the most of his opportunity. First, he and partner Dakota Kirchenschlager won the final round of team roping with a 7.8 which put them second overall. LeMond’s time of 19.5 took second place in the final round of steer roping and he finished fourth in that event. The veteran cowboy won the all-around title and more than $21,000.

Senior steer roping champion C.A. Lauer, from Buffalo, Okla., has been competing at Cheyenne since 1976 and finally won a title. He shared in the more than $1 million in prize money and awards presented to winning contestants at the 2015 edition of Cheyenne Frontier Days.

Wyoming Governor Matt Mead was on hand for the final performance and the awards presentations afterward.

“In Wyoming, rodeo is still king,” he said. “We absolutely love it.”

Plans are underway for the 120th annual celebration of the western lifestyle. It will be held July 22 – 31 2016.

CHEYENNE, Wyo., (July 25, 2015) –  Steer wrestling at the eighth performance of the Cheyenne Frontier Days saw five contestants qualifying for Sunday’s finals in hopes of winning a championship here.

Shawn Downing, from Silver Star, Mont., is the most successful steer wrestler here so far. Downing stopped the clock in 8.1 seconds Friday, then came back today with an 8.9. Downing placed in both preliminary rounds and has earned $7,809 so far. He also took the lead in the overall standings with a total time of 17.0 seconds.

Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) qualifier Nick Guy moved into second place overall with a total of 17.3 seconds. Guy, from Sparta, Wisc., had two solid times, 7.2 and 10.1.

Last year’s winner K.C. Jones will be defending his steer wrestling title. He was 8.1 on Friday and 10.9Saturday. The Decatur, Texas, resident and University of Wyoming graduate has a total of 19.0 seconds. Will Lummus from West Point, Miss., is now fifth and the 2013 world champion Hunter Cure from Holliday, Texas is in eighth.

Other defending champions that have a chance to repeat are Richmond Champion in the bareback riding and Brenda Mays in the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association barrel race. Mays, from Terrebonne, Ore., had her first run here on July 14th and tied for seventh place with a time of 17.77 to win $1,185. She bettered that performance at Frontier Park Saturday afternoon with a nearly flawless run at 17.46 seconds. That gave her a fourth-place finish to earn $3,543. Mays enters the championship finals in second place behind South Dakota’s Lisa Lockhart. Mays has a total of 35.23, less than three-tenths of a second behind Lockhart.

Champion is fifth in the overall standings with 159 points on two rides. The top spot is held jointly by Wyoming’s Seth Hardwick and Tanner Aus from Minnesota who each have 163. Texans Clint Cannon and Matt Bright both moved into the standings on Saturday. Cannon has 162 and Bright has 160.

Saddle bronc riding will be a great contest with world champion Jesse Wright and NFR average winner Cort Scheer battling it out. Wright, from Milford, Utah has 164 points on two rides. Scheer, from Elsmere, Neb., moved into second place overall with 162 points after an 80 point ride on Saturday. He was 82 on Friday and has already won over $4,000. Bradley Harter, originally from Weatherford, Texas, but now living in Loranger La., also had some luck here. He is 14th in the world standings and every dollar he wins here will help him secure a 10th NFR qualification. Harter and Wyoming’s Chet Johnson were both 82 points on Saturday. Johnson enters Sunday’s finals in fifth place.

Saturday’s bull riding was action-packed with 88 and 87 point rides. Kanin Asay from Powell, Wyo., rode United Pro Rodeo’s Karaoke. The ride was huge for Asay who just returned to competition after having an encounter with a bull at the Reno Rodeo that required surgery to have his right ear reattached. He returned here on Friday where he got bucked off and was actually helped from the arena by the Justin Sportsmedicine Team after having a mild concussion. Asay was evaluated early on Saturday and cleared to ride. He won the second round with his 88 and earned $5,816. Lanham from Sweet, Idaho, was 87 and earned $4,459. They are both competing in the finals by virtue of those scores. There were 11 bull riders who qualified for the finals with two successful rides. The rest of the 18-man field is made up of bull riders that had one score.

At the conclusion of Sunday’s rodeo, $814,369 in prize money will have been distributed to winners here. This rodeo can be a game changer for contestants outside of the top 15 in the world standings that earn a portion of that. Competition gets underway at 12:15.

Cowboys collect cash at 119th annual Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo

By Susan Kanode/Photo by: Dan Hubbell

CHEYENNE, Wyo., (July 24, 2015) –It was more than a great day for bull rider Brennon Eldred at Cheyenne Frontier Days on Friday — it was stellar.

Eldred, who is second in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association world standings rode United Pro Rodeo’s bull named Maximum Justice Black for 86 points. That not only puts him in great position to win his first championship from the “Daddy of ‘em All,” it gave him the win in the first round and earned him $5,816.

That money is very important for the Sulphur, Okla., resident as he pursues his second Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) qualification. Eldred is currently second in the world standings and about $5,000 behind Sage Steele Kimzey, the reigning world champion.

Kimzey was also successful in Frontier Park scoring 76 on Bailey Pro Rodeo’s Lite ‘em Up. This is not the only great performance for Eldred here. Last Monday and Tuesday he rode five bulls to win the Championship Bull Riders World Finals.

Kimzey and Eldred will have their second round competition here on Saturday. There have only been six men who have ridden two bulls, and with 16 qualifying for Sunday’s championship Finals, they are likely to be extending their stay in Cheyenne.

The big money winner here so far is Marty Yates, from Stephenville, Texas. He roped and tied his calf in 10.0 seconds, just one-tenth of a second off of the arena record of 9.9 set in 1997 by Chad Johnston. Yates won $6,357 so far. He is second in the standings here and while his position might change, he should be among the top 12 ropers who qualify for Sunday’s finals.

Canada’s Guy Shapka was the last contestant to win the rookie bronc riding (1983) and the saddle bronc riding (1988) here. Cort Scheer from Elsmere, Neb., is hoping to be the next. Scheer won the rookie here in 2008. He scored 82 points here on Friday to place second in the first round. That was worth $3,687 for Scheer who was five points behind Utah’s Jesse Wright who had 87 to win $4,809. Scheer needs 83 points on Saturday to take control of the overall standings.

Saturday’s competition will determine second round winners and championship finals qualifiers. The rodeo starts at 12:15 p.m. The top 12 contestants in bareback riding, steer wrestling, team roping, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, and women’s barrel racing will advance. In the bull riding, the best 16 will qualify. The rookie saddle bronc riding champion will also be crowned at Saturday’s rodeo.

Blake Knowles wrestles lead at Cheyenne Frontier Days

By Johna Cravens/Photo By: Dan Hubbell

CHEYENNE, Wyo., (July 23, 2015) –Oregon cowboy Blake Knowles could secure his third trip to the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR) after taking the overall lead in steer wrestling at the sixth performance of the 119th Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo.

Knowles, who’s currently ranked ninth in the world standings, had a total time of 21.3 seconds on two steers after stopping the clock in 11.7 seconds on Thursday. He is placing fifth in the first round with a 9.6. He is out of the money in the second round, but still stands to win a pile of money. His consistency should put him in good position in Sunday’s final championship round.

The ranch-raised cowboy still works on Healy Ranch near Heppner, Ore., when he’s not traveling across the country with his cousin Trevor Knowles competing in rodeos. Trevor is currently seventh overall at Cheyenne and 11th in the world championship standings.

Neither cowboy has won a championship at Cheyenne. Blake’s father Butch Knowles, the 1987 NFR Champion in saddle bronc riding and a four-time qualifier in that event hasn’t won a Cheyenne championship either. Blake could be the first in his accomplished rodeo family to win a prestigious Cheyenne Frontier Days buckle.

Wyoming cowboy Seth Hardwick took the lead in the second round of bareback riding with a score of 84 points on Pickett Pro Rodeo’s Bar Code. That gave him a total of 163 points and tied him for the overall lead with Minnesota’s Tanner Aus. Hardwick, who lives in Laramie, could be the first Wyoming cowboy in a decade to win the Cheyenne Frontier Days bareback championship.

Hardwick came close to qualifying for his first NFR last year, finishing in the top 25. He’s built on that success and is currently ranked seventh in the world standings and, if he continues to win here, he be competing there this year.

Former world champion Jesse Wright of Milford, Utah, has the overall lead in saddle bronc riding. He added a 77-point ride in the second round and heads into Sunday’s finals with a six-point lead over Steven Dent of Mullen, Nebraska. Dent, who has qualified for seven NFRs in the bareback riding, had an 80-point ride on Stace Smith Pro Rodeo’s Pony Man to tie for third in the second round.

“I didn’t know anything about the horse I got on yesterday,” Wright said. “The horse I had today was a nice hopper. I’m pretty happy with the way it worked out.”

Tim Bingham and Marty Yates built on their first-round success in the second round. Bingham, whose 85-point ride yesterday took the lead in the first round of bull riding, scored 79 on Dakota Rodeo’s Deep Waters which put him third in the second round and second overall. Yates’ time of 11.2 put him fifth in the second round and second overall with 21.2 seconds.

Friday’s competition will complete the first round in all of the men’s events. Barrel racers will be competing in the second round. Rodeo action gets underway at 12:15 p.m.

Saddle maker Brad Rudolf takes bronc riding lead

CHEYENNE, Wyo., (July 21, 2015) – The old adage of “if you want something done right, do it yourself,” applies pretty well to saddle bronc rider Brad Rudolf of Winnemucca, Nev.

Rudolf, who took the overall lead in the saddle bronc riding at the 119th Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo today with an 83-point score on Rocky Mountain Rodeo’s Angel Flight, builds custom bronc riding saddles for himself and other cowboys.

He grew up in Winterset, Iowa, and learned to work on saddles in his grandfather’s shop when he was a kid. Rudolf always dreamed of riding bucking horses and started doing so at age 13. He came through the ranks of rodeo from high school to college and now the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. He just tied for the win at the Snake River Stampede at Nampa, Idaho, with Cort Scheer.

In 2007 he started repairing the trees (frames) of bronc saddles and in 2010 he began building his own saddles, a process that takes 30 to 40 hours per saddle. Rudolf has built saddles for many other bronc riders, with more than 100 of his custom saddles now being used in rodeo competition.

Rudolf’s ride today is tied for the lead in the second round of bronc riding competition with Isaac Diaz of Desdemona, Texas, and gave him a two-point lead overall. He has 156 points and is looking good to be back here for the championship finals on Sunday. Diaz is in a tie for second place overall with Joe Lufkin from Sallisaw, Okla.

A couple of Colorado cowboys, Jay Tittel of Pueblo and T.J. Watts of Eads, took the overall lead in team roping with 18.0 seconds on two steers during slack (overflow) competition. But the fastest time of this year’s rodeo so far is a 6.8 by Texans Colby Lovell and 19-time National Finals Rodeo (NFR) roper Kory Koontz which happened at Tuesday’s rodeo. They now lead the second round.

Jared Thompson, originally from Iowa, moved to Oklahoma to attend Western Oklahoma State College and pursue his goal of being a champion steer wrestler. He is the new overall leader in steer wrestling with a total of 22.2 seconds after two rounds. He followed up yesterday’s 11.7 run with a 10.5 today.

Former Cheyenne and world champion barrel racer Mary Walker put herself in position to be back here on Sunday for the championship finals. Walker and her great horse Latte had a 17.67 on Tuesday to give them a total time of 35.40, currently in second place.

Competition on Wednesday will see all of the cowboys in the first round of competition. The barrel racers will be in the second round. Rodeo action gets underway at 12:15 p.m.

First Time jitters don’t get in the way of Cheyenne Frontier Days Steer Wrestler

By: Susan Kanode

CHEYENNE, Wyo., (July 19, 2015) – A rookie and a veteran got together to take the lead in the first round of steer wrestling at the third performance of the “Daddy of ‘em All.”

J.D. Struxness from Appleton, Minn., took the lead in the first round of competition at the 119th Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo with a fast time of 7.0 seconds. The former College National Finals Rodeo qualifier is second in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association’s Rookie of the Year standings. He is also in the top 50 of the world standings.

Struxness is traveling with veteran competitor Stockton Graves and is riding Graves’ steer wrestling horse. Graves, the head rodeo coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, was riding beside Struxness hazing. This is the first time that Struxness has competed in Cheyenne which is not the average rodeo on the circuit.

Steers here are big (weighing over 600 pounds) and strong and get a 30-foot head start, known as the score line. At many rodeos, cattle get a 10 – 12 foot head start. The longer score line can create havoc as horses that are anxious to run and do their jobs have to wait for cattle to wander out into the arena. It also means that contestants have to be really patient.

“Stockton told me that I should breathe deep and try to stay calm in the box,” Struxness said. “Then I should treat this like any other rodeo. It sure worked out. I had a good steer and am glad to have that first one behind me.”

Graves is in second place in the first round with a 9.7 and while that time is significantly slower than that of Struxness, they each are in good position to qualify for the championship finals on Sunday, July 26th. They both will have their second round of competition on Tuesday which will determine their opportunity to make a trip back to Cheyenne this weekend.

Clint Robinson, from Spanish Fork, Utah, is the new leader in the first round of tie-down roping. He had a 10.4-second run in Frontier Park on Monday. The five-time Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier won the championship here in 2006. He is 10th in the world standings and on pace to be back in Las Vegas this December for rodeo’s championship event.

Brittany Pozzi won the barrel racing title here in 2007 and may have an opportunity to ride for another. The Victoria, Texas, cowgirl stopped the clock in 17.45 seconds on Monday, the fastest time of the rodeo so far.       Pozzi was riding her five-year-old mare she calls Mona. Mona’s registered name is Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and was raised and trained by Pozzi.

“I have a lot of confidence on her in a big arena like this,” Pozzi said. “She seems to do better when I can get her into the arena and get her zoned in on the barrels.”

All of Tuesday’s rodeo competitors will be in their second round of competition. The rodeo gets underway at 12:15 p.m.

Minnesota bareback rider moves to the top of CFD leader board

For immediate release

By: Susan Kanode

CHEYENNE, Wyo., (July 19, 2015) – Bareback rider Tanner Aus, of Granite Falls, Minn., is riding high  at the 119th Cheyenne Frontier Days, especially for a guy who had to be talked into entering this year’s rodeo by his traveling partners.

Aus, who is currently ranked 17th in the world championship standings in 2015, had his 2014 season derailed at Cheyenne when a horse named Mike Outhier threw him off and tore his meniscus ligament. He wasn’t that excited about coming back to the “Daddy of ‘Em All” this year since he’s in position to perhaps qualify for his first National Finals Rodeo.

At the urging of his traveling partners, fellow bareback riders Casey and Ty Breuer and Joe Gunderson, Aus entered the rodeo. His buddies had to give him an extra push when Aus learned he had drawn Mike Outhier again in the first round.

The former National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association champion topped the rematch and scored 84 points yesterday to take the lead in the first round. He followed that up today with 79 points on Andrews Rodeo’s Double Cross. That was good enough to tie for the second-round lead with Jake Vold of Ponoka, Alberta, and give Aus 163 total points and the overall lead.

Lisa Lockhart and her veteran barrel racing horse Louie were the definition of consistency. The duo clocked a 17.48-second run to take the second-round lead with the exact same time (to the hundredths of a second) that earned them more than $5,700 when they won the first round of barrel racing here earlier this week. Lockhart, the leader for the 2015 world championship from Oelrichs, S.D., just won the barrel racing at the Calgary Stampede and is in position to win her first Cheyenne Frontier Days title with a total time of 34.96.

Bull rider Aaron Pass of Dallas, Texas, took a page out of Lockhart’s book, notching his second 83-point ride in two days to take the overall lead in bull riding. Pass, who is riding healthy for the first time in a long time, topped Smith, Harper & Morgan Rodeo’s Tom Thumb. His 166 total points makes him a favorite to compete in the championship round here July 26.

Monday’s competitors will be in the first go-round in all events except barrel racing which is in the second go-around. Rodeo competition starts at 12:15 p.m.

Healthy Pass takes bull riding lead at Cheyenne

By: Susan Kanode

CHEYENNE, Wyo., (July 18, 2015) – Aaron Pass rode a bull at the 119th Annual “Daddy of ‘em All” on Saturday under unusual circumstances for the Dallas, Texas, resident – he wasn’t hurting.

Pass has been riding bulls for over 13 years and has spent much of that time on the injured reserve list. That time includes the past six weeks after sustaining broken ribs at the Cloverdale Rodeo in British Columbia, the end of May.

He spent the time off with his family and getting in shape to get back on a bull again. That happened on Saturday at Frontier Park where he took the early lead in the first round. He rode Smith Harper and Morgan’s bull named Juke Box Hero for 84 points.

“I’m just happy I stayed on,” Pass said. “It takes riding three to win Cheyenne, so I’ve got my work cut out for me. It feels really good to be riding and not be sore.”

Pass qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo last year for the first time. His year this year has been less than what he had hoped for, but any money out of Cheyenne will be a big boost for his season.

Tanner Aus, from Granite Falls, Minn., had a little sweet revenge here on Saturday. The bareback rider was competing here last year on a horse named Mike Outhier owned by Stace Smith Pro Rodeo. He came off early and tore his MCL. When he found out he would get on the same horse again here this year, it was time to ride and score.

That’s exactly what the former National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association champion did. When the judges added up their scores, Aus was at the top of the leaderboard with an 84. He is just outside of the top 15 in the world standings, so anything he wins here would certainly help him move up.

All of Sunday’s competitors will be in the second go-round. Rodeo competition starts at 12:15 p.m.

Cinch Shoot-Out kicks off Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo

CHEYENNE, Wyo., (July 17, 2015) – The 119th “Daddy of ‘em All” got off to an exciting start at Frontier Park on Friday afternoon with the Cinch Shoot-Out.

Competition included bareback riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, women’s barrel racing and bull riding. Eight contestants in each of these events represented rodeos in Denver, Colo.; Fort Worth, San Antonio, Austin and Houston, Texas; Reno, Nev.; Calgary, Alberta; and Cheyenne.

The field was cut in half to advance to the finals where the best of four in each event earned $10,000. The bareback riding battle was between Matt Bright, from Fort Worth, Texas, and Sankey Rodeo’s horse Thunder Monkey. Bright managed to not only ride, but spur his way to the top with a 91-point effort.

“I’ve been wanting to get on that horse for a long time,” said Bright. “This is an awesome place to have him. My birthday was yesterday and I was hoping I’d get a late birthday present.”

Bright has just recently returned to the rodeo arena. The three-time National Finals Rodeo qualifier had surgery on his elbow in 2013 and missed a good part of the season. Then, last March, he tore his groin and had to take more time off.

He used the time away from competition to get married in November of 2013 and a year later he and his wife became parents of a baby boy they named Weston.

“This will buy a lot of diapers,” Bright said of the win. “It couldn’t have come at a better time for me. This is a busy time of year on the rodeo circuit, so the money will help, but the confidence that comes with 88 and 91 point rides is huge.”

Another contestant that got a huge boost of confidence is Jon Ragatz from Beetown, Wisc., who won the steer wrestling title with an 6.6-second run. Ragatz was representing Rodeo Austin here and finished third in the first round to advance to the finals. His time was over two seconds ahead of Jake Rinehart who had an 8.8.

A horse from New West Productions took Cort Scheer to the winner’s circle in saddle bronc riding. Scheer, from Elsmere, Neb., was 89.5 points on Showbiz to win the $10,000. Wade Sundell from Coleman, Okla., was close behind with 87.5.

In the barrel racing, former Cheyenne Frontier Days champion Christi Loflin from Franktown, Colo., left town with $10,000. Loflin finished at the top of the leaderboard in the first round with a 17.073 second run, then was the first one out in the finals representing the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo. Riding the great mare Sheza Blazin Move that Loflin calls Movin, she stopped the clock in 17.086 seconds in the finals. This is the same horse that took her to the rodeo championship in 2013 and the reserve championship here in 2012.

Two of the eight bull riders were successful in the first round, Pistol Robinson and Cody Rostockyj. Robinson, from Coolidge, Texas, rode Summit Pro Rodeo’s James Gang for an 86.5 score for Cheyenne Frontier Days. Rostockyj scored 77 points on another Summit bull named Spotted Ape and advanced to the finals for the San Antonio Stock Show Rodeo. Brett Stall and Clayton Savage also advanced based on the time that they rode.

Three of the final four riders were successful. Rostockyj ended up with the cash after an 89-point effort on a Smith Pro Rodeo bull named Sipping Pendleton.

Points were accumulated by each of the teams and at the end of the competition, the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo emerged as the champions.

Rodeo action continues on Saturday with a full slate of events beginning at 12:15 p.m.
