2026 Traffic Operations Plan is designed to move vehicles safely and efficiently while protecting pedestrians, maintaining emergency access, and providing the best possible experience for our guests.

Traffic Philosophy

  • Traffic generally circulates in a clockwise pattern around Frontier Park.
  • Temporary barriers, drums, cones, signage, and traffic control personnel establish one-way traffic patterns during the event.
  • Directions from Traffic Control personnel and the Cheyenne Police Department always supersede normal roadway markings and traffic signals.

Key Traffic Notes – General Operations

  • West 8th Avenue operates westbound only during event traffic.
  • Vehicles entering Frontier Park from West 8th Avenue must be traveling westbound. Left turns into the park from eastbound 8th Avenue are not permitted.
  • The only authorized left turn from West 8th Avenue is at the Carey Avenue/Cribbon Avenue intersection.
  • Vehicles entering Frontier Park from Carey Avenue must be traveling southbound. Left turns into the park from northbound Carey Avenue are not permitted.
  • At the intersection of Hynds Boulevard and West 8th Avenue, traffic is right turn only.

Peak Egress

  • Rodeo: Approximately 4:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., or until traffic clears.
  • Night Show: Approximately 10:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m., or until traffic clears.
  • Carey Avenue becomes northbound only.
  • All vehicles exiting Frontier Park are directed northbound on Carey Avenue toward Kennedy Road.
  • Traffic may utilize opposing travel lanes under the direction of Traffic Control and the Cheyenne Police Department.

Gate V-10

  • Permit access gate for contestants, committee members, staff, vendors, contract acts, employee shuttles, stock contractors, and other authorized vehicles.
  • No inbound traffic is permitted through Gate V-10 during Peak Egress.
  • Emergency vehicles and law enforcement are the only exceptions.

Large Vehicles & Trailers

Large trucks and trailers are encouraged to remain parked until Peak Egress concludes. If departure is necessary during Peak Egress, vehicles will generally be directed to exit via Gate V-12 onto Hynds Boulevard.

Traffic from the “Avenues”

Vehicles entering West 8th Avenue from residential streets north of Frontier Park have restricted turning movements during event traffic.

  • Cribbon Avenue
  • Dey Avenue
  • Dillon Avenue
  • Vehicles entering from these intersections must turn right (westbound).
  • Left turns onto eastbound West 8th Avenue are not permitted.

Parking Restrictions

No parking is permitted on West 8th Avenue during Cheyenne Frontier Days. These restrictions remain in effect throughout the event to maintain traffic flow and preserve emergency access.

Uber & Ride Share Pick-Up

  • Located on West 8th Avenue immediately west of Gate V-1.
  • Please direct guests using Uber, Lyft, taxis, or other ride-share services to this designated pick-up location.

Committee Reminder

Please help reinforce these traffic patterns with your committee members, volunteers, contestants, vendors, and guests. If Traffic Control personnel or the Cheyenne Police Department provide directions that differ from normal roadway operations, their instructions always take precedence.
