The 39th Annual Western Spirit Art Show & Sale opens on March 7, 2020. This show features over 400 original pieces of Western art from artists all over the country.
The Art Show kicks off with an opening reception the evening of March 7. Museum members will be admitted at 5:00 pm for a member-only preview and Buy-it-Now, where all pieces, including the popular miniatures, can be purchased at a 25% premium before the sale opens to the ticketed public at 6:00 pm. 35% of each piece of artwork sold and opening night reception ticket directly benefit the Museum.
Opening night festivities feature a Silent Auction Quick Draw, where four artists create an original piece of art from scratch that and can be bid on during the duration of the Quick Draw. Other components include live entertainment, and complimentary full bar, and heavy hors d’oeuvres.
New to Western Spirit is the Western Art for Non-Profit Partners Program. This initiative provides buyers a new way to purchase art, support the Museum, and give to other local non-profits. Buyers may select art from wish-lists provided at registration to buy and donate to our partner organizations. These wish-lists have been carefully curated by our partner organizations to fit their missions.

The Cheyenne Frontier Days™ Western Art Show is an invitational show which features the nation’s top Western artists presenting original art that celebrates the heritage and the future of the American West. Over the last 39 years, this high-caliber Art Show has become the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum’s largest fundraiser supporting Arts Education, Exhibits, Collections, and Operations.
The Opening Reception kicks off with a sneak peek of the Carriage Hall filled with exclusive, never-before-shown art. Shortly after, you are transported to the Governor’s residence where the Governor and the First Lady host a cocktail party on the lawn, giving you a chance to mingle with the artists and enjoy the beautiful Wyoming outdoors. After the cocktail hour, you return to the Museum where the real fun begins, with a sales drawing, and opportunity to “Jump the Gun” on the sales, and a live art auction.
This year, the Art Show is featuring six new artists: Barbara Summer Edwards, Howard Halbert, Peggy Judy, David Riley, Georgia Roswell, and David Santillanes. The Museum’s Young Professional group, The Mavericks, selected a piece from the Western Spirit Art Show and Sale, “Wicked” by Robin Cook, to be featured and available for sale in the CFD Western Art Show as the third ever Mavericks’ Choice piece.

This Saturday, March 7, 2020 the 39th Annual Western Spirit Art Show & Sale opens. This show features over 200 original pieces of Western art from artists all over the country.

A Western Art Seminar will be conducted on Saturday, March 7, 2020, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., which includes a continental breakfast and lunch. This seminar is a great professional development and networking opportunity for artists which covers five different sessions including presentations and demonstrations by the exhibit jurors and art professionals. This year’s presenters are Scott Jones, Alexis Garrett, Carrie Wild, and Harvey Deselms.

The Old West Museum has a wonderful collection of art and western artifacts. The Cheyenne Frontier Days celebration has been a part of the Wyoming culture for over 120 years, and this museum spans the decades with a great combination of art and history. A looping rodeo video plays in the heart of museum, bringing the viewer right into the history of rodeo. Additionally, rotating art installations show the vibrancy of western culture portrayed through a variety of mediums. The museum is open year-round as a permanent fixture in Cheyenne, Wyoming, with extended hours during Cheyenne Frontier Days.
National touring acts and local musicians alike perform at Cheyenne Frontier Days, bringing the best in folk and country music. Big country stars take the main stage in the fairground most nights during the celebration. The music reverberates through the concert, and creates an energy that gets everyone stomping their boots. For the 21+ crowd, the Buckin’ A Saloon is a great place to enjoy smaller, yet highly entertaining acts. Music in the Buckin’ A Saloon is free with admission into the fairgrounds, and a great place to show off your two-step.
Experience a real taste of authentic Native American culture in the Indian Village at Cheyenne Frontier Days. There are scheduled dance performances daily that are truly mesmerizing! An inspiring display of colorful clothing, drumming, and impressive dance routines will keep you on the edge of your seat. The Grand Parade in Cheyenne, Wyoming combines top marching bands, horses, antique carriages, vintage bicycles, and everything in between. Announcers along the parade route provide commentary for each float, so you’ll get a great sense of the history and culture of Wyoming. Fortunately, the Grand Parade takes place 4 times during Cheyenne Frontier Days, so you’ll have multiples opportunities to attend.
