An Authentic Chuckwagon Cook-Off Experience

The Chuckwagon Cook-Off offers a rare opportunity to experience the authentic cooking methods used during the late 19th century, when cattle drives spanned the vast plains and hearty meals were prepared over open fires.

Step Back in time

Teams of skilled cooks, outfitted in period-appropriate attire, will compete in this exciting event, utilizing vintage chuckwagons and the same tools, ingredients, and techniques that early cowboys and settlers relied on. The cook-off will not only test their culinary expertise but also their ability to recreate the ambiance of a true pioneer camp. Judging criteria will include:

Authenticity of the chuckwagons: Every detail matters, from the design of the wagons to the tools and utensils used.
Camp setup: Competitors will recreate a traditional cowboy camp, complete with tents and equipment true to the era.
Cooking methods: Participants will employ the same methods pioneers used, such as cooking over open flames and using cast iron skillets and Dutch ovens.
Food preparation: Teams will craft a variety of dishes reminiscent of the hearty meals that sustained those on long cattle drives.
